What is an IFSC code?

The Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) is an 11-character code that identifies a specific bank branch for NEFT, RTGS and IMPS transfers. The first four letters identify the bank, the fifth character is always a zero (reserved for future use), and the last six characters identify the branch.

The 9-digit MICR code printed on cheques identifies the clearing location, while a SWIFT/BIC code is used for international transfers and is usually assigned per bank rather than per branch.

Branch data is compiled from the Reserve Bank of India's published IFSC/MICR lists via the open Razorpay IFSC dataset. Banks merge, rename and close branches, so confirm critical details (especially before large transfers) with your bank. This site is not affiliated with any bank.
